“It’s such an amazing drawing, created using a palo santo wood stick (palo santo literally means ‘holy wood’ in Spanish—it’s related to the same family of plants as frankincense and myrrh, and its use dates back hundreds of years). It’s a beautiful and meaningful medium for the sketch, making it even more interesting and adding depth.

"What a unique opportunity! Deborah and I knew immediately that we wanted to do this. We are so thankful that we did it and we especially treasure the experience of doing it with Alexa. The photos included with this reflection show Alexa’s talents as a photographer and her creative skills. Being an experienced angler herself gave her the insights of where to position herself to capture the action shots and she expertly worked the stream anticipating photo opportunities without spooking the fish. Alexa broadened our vision of the types of pictures that could be include in the session such as portraits, which will definitely be on this year’s Christmas card. Spending time with Alexa is such an interesting and pleasant experience that we are already thinking about more adventures to explore with her.
